Allucinari is now searching for talented Designs and Visual Effects Artists as well as Concept Artists. You do not have to do all of them, just one. Read the description that best suits you.

There is no location requirement.

DESIGN -

In the design category, we mostly do concert screen design and music videos. We also design television and film titles and animated logos. We are looking for artists with a very strong sense of aesthetics ("what is beautiful"). We hire freelance on a per job basis. We hire artists with a variety of styles, but all of them understand and have experience building for production clients - meaning knowing how to build so that things can change. Our turn arounds are usually moderate to quick. Within one job, we will often contract one artst for several designs, but always start with just one.

Please send links of your reels to designerjobs2007@allucinari.com

FX -

We create visual FX for Film and Television. We hire freelancers who work from their home mostly and hire shot by shot at first; sometimes by shot groups or sequences. Most of the work is compositing, but we are looking for matte painters and 3D artists as well.

In addition to generalists, we are in search of:

3D Hard surface organic modelers for things like armored characters and motorcycles.
3D Character Rigger and animators.
2D Rotoscopers
2D Compositors

Please mention what application you use. Modo and Lightwave are a plus for 3D.

Please send links of your reels to fxjobs2007@allucinari.com

CONCEPT ARTISTS -

We are looking for concept artists to fuel ideas for both our effects and design work. A heavy anime/sci-fi range would be a big plus to see.

Please send links of your website to conceptjobs2007@allucinari.com

I'm curious how to get started on Flame and/or Inferno systems. I've been working on node based desktop applications [Digital Fusion, Shake] on feature films for the past 3 years, but now I feel like kicking it up a notch and inviting some change into my life. I used to know Combustion and am familiar with Toxik so I figure those are a decent starting ground. I'm not so worried about being able to learn the Flame/Inferno systems- I know I can do that- but how does one get into it?

How does one get time on those systems? How do I get started professionally on a Flame/Inferno? Do companies ever offer to train new employees in exchange for their employment?

Perhaps working at a studio with both desktop and Flame/Inferno artists would be the best option?

What do you guys [and gals] think?

Has anyone tried pulling keys on cineon sequences before? I'm using after effects to pull a difficult key on a house explosion we shot. The house is a scale model and has been shot at the same angle of the back plate, which is footage of the real house. The miniature and background of the plate I'm keying have been painted Chroma Blue except for the windows and doors, which blow out in the explosion.
The question is, should I apply a cineon converter to the footage before I pull the key, or apply the converter to an adjustment layer and then pull? I think if we ever do this type of thing again, we will use black instead of blue. The fire gets so bright, the blues change dramatically.
it is an interlaced format , so it will be better for motion / pan sequences , but it is not going to have a progressive ooptionso it will probably not give the nice clean mattes i was looking forward to ... i guess we shouls celebrate as this is over 2x the resolution of regular DV
